School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play Tickets and Schedule

School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play tickets put you at the center of a sharp, contemporary comedy that pairs coming-of-age energy with social satire. Written by Jocelyn Bioh, this original play first premiered Off-Broadway on October 16, 2017 at MCC Theater in New York City. It takes the familiar “teen hierarchy” engine and flips it into something fresh—set inside an elite boarding school in Ghana.

What makes the production stand out is how it uses culture-clash dynamics to dig into beauty standards, identity, and the pressures of Western influence alongside local tradition. The play’s style is fast and dialogue-forward, powered by high-energy ensemble banter and a heightened “popular-girls” comedic structure—while keeping pointed commentary under the laughs.

The show has been widely described as acclaimed and noted for its comedic bite and sisterhood-centered perspective on growing up. It’s a smart pick for fans of contemporary comedies, coming-of-age stories, and socially observant plays with pop-cultural energy.

Looking ahead, a Broadway engagement has been announced for the 2026–27 season at Manhattan Theatre Club, with performances beginning September 2026 in New York City. TicketPurchase.com makes it easy to secure your seats with verified tickets, real-time seat maps, and a seamless checkout experience.

The Experience

Onstage, you’ll see rivalries and shifting alliances among students as a new arrival disrupts the social order—setting off comedic set pieces rooted in school competition and status. The story centers on girlhood, friendship, and social power dynamics, building momentum through social-status face-offs, comedic escalations, and turning points in self-image.

The production leans into a contemporary play style with school-setting staging and design elements that support a boarding-school environment. It’s character-driven and timing-forward—designed to keep the humor snappy while letting the themes land with real impact.
