The production officially premiered on December 11, 2022 at the Shubert Theatre in New York City, bringing a classic story to the stage with big laughs, big movement, and full-out showmanship. It’s directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and a book by Matthew López and Amber Ruffin.

Built as a true “song-and-dance spectacular,” Some Like It Hot leans into intricate comedic staging and high-velocity ensemble work—complete with period style and showy production numbers. The score blends contemporary Broadway energy with classic musical-comedy DNA, using big-band and period-inflected colors to support modern musical-theatre storytelling. Expect major costume-driven transformations, large ensemble dance sequences, and farce mechanics like quick changes, disguises, and escalating chase momentum.

After opening at the Shubert Theatre, the Broadway run closed on December 30, 2023. Story Summary

In Prohibition-era Chicago, two out-of-work musicians—Joe and Jerry—witness a mob hit and suddenly need to disappear fast. Disguising themselves as women to join an all-female band, they hit the road, hoping a new name and a new look will keep them safe.

On tour with the band, the stakes (and the comedy) keep rising—alongside romance, reinvention, and escalating danger as the gangsters close in. With themes of self-discovery, friendship, love, acceptance, and escaping the past, Some Like It Hot Broadway delivers classic farce energy powered by quick changes, disguises, and high-speed staging.
