The Northwestern Wildcats Wrestling schedule is your roadmap to Big Ten battles and high-intensity dual meets in Evanston, Illinois. Northwestern University’s men’s wrestling program has competed at the NCAA Division I level since 1920, representing the Wildcats in the Big Ten Conference. Wearing purple and white, Northwestern wrestling brings a proud, hard-nosed style that shines in the sport’s most competitive league.

While Northwestern has 0 NCAA team championships, the program’s history is defined by standout individual performances and NCAA Championships success across multiple eras. The Wildcats have produced NCAA All-Americans and several national champions—proof that Northwestern can put elite talent on the mat and contend on the biggest stage. If you’re tracking the season for marquee matchups and postseason momentum, the Northwestern Wildcats wrestling schedule is built around the pressure—and opportunity—of Big Ten competition.

Some of the most accomplished Wildcats include Jake Herbert, the 2009 NCAA champion at 184 lbs who later earned Olympic bronze in 2012. Northwestern has also celebrated NCAA champions Matt Storniolo (177 lbs, 1995), Mike Polzine (1987), Louis Taylor (a multi-time NCAA finalist and champion in the 1970s era), and Drew Foster (184 lbs, 2019). Those names reflect a program that’s consistently produced athletes capable of winning at the national level.

Game day at Northwestern wrestling is all about close-up, every-point-matters energy. Dual meets are typically held in an intimate on-campus setting where the crowd is right on top of the action—so every takedown, escape, and near-fall hits harder. Fan excitement often peaks around Big Ten duals and the postseason push toward the Big Ten Championships and NCAA Championships, where individual qualification and All-America runs define the year.

In the recent era, Matt Storniolo leads the program as head coach. Northwestern has continued competing in the Big Ten and qualifying wrestlers to the NCAA Championships in the mid-2020s, with year-to-year outcomes shaped by individual qualifiers and bracket draws. When you want to lock in your plans for key conference showdowns, keeping an eye on the Northwestern Wildcats Wrestling schedule helps you catch the moments that can swing a season.
