Team Information

The East Carolina Pirates Basketball schedule brings NCAA Division I action to Greenville, North Carolina—where ECU’s purple and gold take the floor as members of the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Established in 1931, East Carolina men’s basketball is a proud part of the university’s athletic tradition, backed by a strong regional fan base. Whether you’re a longtime Pirates supporter or planning your first game in Greenville, there’s nothing like seeing college basketball live—fast, physical, and full of momentum swings.

East Carolina has reached the NCAA Tournament twice (1972, 1993), with both appearances finishing in the Round of 64. The Pirates also own two conference tournament championships—winning the Southern Conference Tournament in 1972 and 1993—plus a regular-season conference title in the North State Conference (1949–50). Along the way, ECU has featured notable figures like coach Ed Emory, who led the 1972 NCAA Tournament season, and standout names such as Blue Edwards, an ECU star who later played in the NBA. The program’s legacy also includes alumnus Charles “Chuck” Daly, who became a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coach.

On game day, the Pirates play at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum, ECU’s primary home for men’s basketball. Opened in 1969 with a capacity of 8,000, it delivers an up-close college hoops feel—where runs hit harder, big defensive stops feel louder, and every possession matters. Rivalry energy also adds extra edge when ECU faces in-state opponents like NC State, North Carolina in occasional high-profile meetings, and UNC Wilmington in frequent non-conference matchups.

Under head coach Mike Schwartz, East Carolina has leaned into a defensive-minded approach while building toward consistent upper-tier AAC contention. If you’re tracking the season closely, grabbing East Carolina Pirates Basketball tickets early can be a smart move—especially for matchups that bring added intensity.
