Team Information

The Lamar Cardinals Basketball schedule is your roadmap to Division I action in Beaumont, Texas—where Lamar University competes in the Southland Conference and brings high-energy college hoops to campus. Dressed in red and white, the Cardinals represent a proud program that’s made its mark with postseason runs and conference-tournament success. If you love the fast pace of college basketball and the emotion that comes with every possession, Lamar game nights deliver the kind of atmosphere you can feel from the opening tip.

Lamar men’s basketball has proven it can break through on big stages. The Cardinals have made two NCAA Tournament appearances (1980, 1984) and earned four NIT appearances (1981, 1983, 1985, 2012)—a strong postseason footprint that highlights the program’s ability to compete when the stakes rise. Those peaks include Southland Conference Tournament championships in 1980 and 1984, seasons that helped define what Lamar basketball can be at its best. Over the years, leaders like Billy Tubbs (a former Lamar head coach who later became a prominent college coach) and B.B. Davis (who led Lamar to an NIT berth in 2012) have been part of the program’s story.

On game day, Lamar plays at the Montagne Center on campus in Beaumont—home to the Cardinals’ game-night environment. Opened in 1984, the arena seats 10,080 fans, making it a great spot to catch college basketball up close while still getting that full crowd energy when the Southland slate heats up. And if you’re circling matchups that bring extra edge, Lamar’s Southland history includes rivalry and repeat-showdown energy with opponents like the McNeese Cowboys, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, and the Sam Houston Bearkats.
