Team Information

The James Madison Dukes bring fast-paced, high-energy college hoops to Harrisonburg, and the James Madison Dukes Women's Basketball schedule is your roadmap to catching it live. JMU competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Sun Belt Conference, representing James Madison University with plenty of Purple-and-Gold pride. The program has been part of the school’s athletic tradition since 1969, and game days have a strong campus feel that’s easy to love—whether you’re a longtime fan or you’re just looking for a great night out.

On the national stage, JMU women’s basketball has made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently in 2026. The program’s biggest March moment came in 2014, when the Dukes reached the Sweet 16—a season that put JMU in the spotlight across the country. That run remains a defining milestone and a reminder of what the Dukes can do when the stakes rise.

A big part of that story is leadership. Kenny Brooks coached the Dukes from 2002–2016, guiding the program to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2014 Sweet 16. The current era is led by Sean O’Regan (2016–present), who has continued to keep JMU in the postseason conversation and led the Dukes back to the NCAA Tournament, including the 2026 appearance. If you like teams that play with purpose and thrive on home energy, this is a program worth seeing in person.

When you’re checking the James Madison Dukes Women's Basketball schedule, keep an eye out for matchups that add extra edge. Old Dominion is an in-state rival with a history shaped by regional competition and conference realignment eras. Games against Virginia Commonwealth can also draw plenty of interest thanks to regional recruiting overlap, while Liberty matchups can bring in-state bragging rights when they’re on the calendar. Rivalry games aren’t just about the final score—they’re about the atmosphere in the building from the opening tip.

Home games are played at the Atlantic Union Bank Center, JMU’s primary on-campus arena for basketball. Opened in 2020 with a capacity of 8,500, it’s a modern venue built to elevate the fan experience—especially with an environment designed to amplify crowd noise. Add in JMU’s pep band, student participation, and that “Dukes” identity running through the whole presentation, and you get a home-court feel that’s loud, proud, and memorable.
